President's Report

November is the month that we hear and see what everyone is thankful for. I hope that we all find the time to reflect on what we are truly thankful for - even in the midst of chaos and sadness - there is still always a beam of hope and gratitude.

Here is what some of your 2020 Board is thankful for this year:

“I am thankful for my health, my family and friends. It’s truly been the best part and only way I made it through 2020.” – Rebecca Faulk (Secretary)

“I am thankful for Melatonin for children and Gin.” – Courtney Hopper (Treasurer)

“I’m thankful for my boyfriend to keep me sane on the daily, amazing friends and family, good wine, and YOGA.” – Dana Statkun (Director of Marketing and Communications)

“I am thankful for Supportive industry friends who cheer me up and remind me I am not alone. And a team of ladies to share the crazy with!” – Aneesa Glines (VP Programs)

“I am thankful for talented event industry colleagues who have become supportive friends and cheerleaders for one another.” – Erin McCauley (VP Registration)”

“I'm thankful for the cold weather, and family time.  The approaching holiday season and a supportive workplace and community!” – Caroline Placey (Gala Chair)

“I am thankful for Good Health, Good Friends, Weekends, and Tequila” – Jesse Smith (Director of Membership)

“I am thankful for quiet moments, time with loved ones, and good bbq.” – James Walters (Director of furndraising)

“I am thankful for my health. During my time off working, I was able to focus on the things that I  could control – lots of exercise, spending lots of time outdoors, and eating better.” – Vanessa Jackson (Director of Programs)

“I am thankful for our NACE community. The listening ears, the telling truth, and the sympathetic heart of my industry friends have gotten me through the struggles of 2020 and will help me nourish and grow next year.” – Jessica Lee (Immediate Past President)

“I am thankful for this amazing team that was never able to reach their full potential as the 2020 board due to the pandemic. Every single one of them has been a rock for me and I can not thank them enough!” – Dana Kadwell (President)

RedBridge Photo is hosting Holiday studio portraits

Red Bridge Photography is hosting In-studio Holiday Mini sessions at their Apex studio on November 29 and December 6!   While there will not be a Santa in the studio this year, we will still bring all the holiday cheer you could imagine for these holiday studio sessions!  With many Santa sessions and holiday portraits in commercialized spaces like malls won't be offered this year, we are offering a SAFE and holiday filled alternative.

  • Up to 20 (TWENTY)  minutes custom photography for Apex commercial studio session (time for family, kids and parents portraits - more groupings as time allows)
  • Sessions booked every 30 minutes to allow time to clean high touch areas and space out each group so you aren't in the studio at the same time as the next group.
  • Each session is for up to 6 (SIX) people and that is the max capacity for the studio/office with photographer and helper.
  • Studio staff will wear masks.  You do not need to wear a mask unless you feel more comfortable doing so.
  •  Sessions are $200 and include 3 (THREE) digital images delivered via Dropbox (both high resolution for print and low resolution watermarked for web).
  • Online password protected gallery of the best images from the session for you to view images from the session within 7 (SEVEN) business days of the session.  You have 10 (TEN) business days from gallery delivery to select your 3 (THREE) images included in the session for digital delivery.  You have the option upon booking or after gallery delivery to purchase the full collection of digital images as seen in the online gallery for an additional $200 plus tax.

The Catering Company has opened up a sister company  - Ghost Kitchen Eats!

“Long-standing members in the Triangle catering community, The Catering Company of Chapel Hill recently opened a sister company: Ghost Kitchen Eats, Chapel Hill’s first locally owned, delivery-only restaurant group. Ghost Kitchen Eats is a web based operation that features two distinct menus available for online ordering with immediate delivery; Bistro 501 and The BBQ Co. of Chapel Hill.

The Ghost Kitchen materialized as a response to an emerging market need for delivery-friendly, restaurant-quality meals. The seasoned entrepreneurs and co-owners of The Catering Company took their time crafting a thoughtful business pivot in response to the rapidly changing environment, a pivot that would utilize both existing infrastructure, and a highly loyal employee base.

Ghost Kitchen Eats is the Triangle area frontrunner in the emerging industry of ghost, or virtual kitchens. The company currently offers delivery to South Durham, most of the Chapel Hill and Carrboro Area, and has expansion plans for the future. In the meantime, local residents can experience a much-needed alternative to corporate third-party delivery platforms, like GrubHub or Postmates

The Ghost Kitchen and Delivery Co. is open for delivery Tuesday  through Saturday, 11:00am to 9:00pm.

Upcoming Event

Join us on Tuesday, November 10th for our next in-person event!  Rachel Sheerin, Certified Professional Behavior Analyst and Award Winning Speaker, will be making us laugh, learn, and get charged up! Some of us, if not all of us, may have been wondering where our mojo has gone these past 7 months. Prepare to be engaged and inspired as Rachel provides us with the tools to find our spark again and make 2021 our happiest year yet!

We understand everyone's comfortability levels are diferent right now, so we are also offering another ticket option where you can livestream Rachel's presentation from the comfort of your own home. A link to the livestream will be emailed to those who register on the day of the event.

Rachel will also be offering two workshops that are exclusive to NACE members! Your ticket price will include the option to attend one of her workshop sessions, taking place on November 10th at The Bradford.

As we get back to in-person events, we have a few things we are doing to ensure that we keep everyone safe.

  • Mask Wearing - everyone will be required to wear a mask unless they are seated at their table.
  • Networking - typically this is the first hour and has food and drinks. We will keep networking, but it will not have any food or drinks to make sure everyone keeps their masks on.
  • Seating - each meeting we will ask who you will be sitting with. We want to be sure that you are around those that you feel comfortable taking off your mask and eating and drinking.

As a reminder, meetings may look a little different right now as we want to be respectful of what sponsors are able to donate. Each meeting ticket prices will reflect the actual cost of the event. Some of our sponsors are able to donate and some we are paying in full for their product, time, and services. We do not want to tax anyone anymore than they already have been. We are trying our best to keep costs as low as possible, but you may see varying prices in the next few months.

We look forward to seeing you all on November 10th!

Holiday Party and Awards

Holiday Party and Awards Gala - December 8th

Our thoughts behind awards this year

I think we can all agree that 2020 did not end up being the blockbuster year we all thought it would be. And while normally at this time we would be filling out entries for our awards gala, we just felt like we all needed to take a step back and just celebrate the simple fact that we all survived 2020.

This year, we are having a different kind of event. We want YOU to decide the awards. We are asking for you to nominate a buddy in the industry who is deserving of an award. Everybody had a fellow industry pro that was integral to their success this year. Whether it was a shoulder to cry on, someone to vent to, or even someone who stepped in and saved your tail - none of us got through this alone. We want you to recognize that person or persons with an award.

**For the 2021 Triangle of Excellence Awards- you will be able to submit 2020 weddings as well **

How to Nominate someone

It does not have to be a NACE member- this can be for anyone in the industry. The awards can also be personal and specific. It could be something as simple as nominating someone for the “Always picks up the phone when I call” award. Or something even sillier like “Always has the best meme” award. You can also choose to be more serious and heartfelt. There is no wrong award. This is a time to celebrate, to laugh, and to just enjoy each other 6’ apart.

If you want to nominate someone, fill out the form here

How we will celebrate

This year, our gala will be at The University Club. We will be separated in multiple rooms with a live stream in each space. We will also offer a live stream for those that want to celebrate at home.

Tickets will be sold differently than they have in the past and will be sold as whole tables. When you sign up, you will tell us how many people are at your table and we will bill you for the entire table. The largest table will be of 8 people and the smallest of 2 people. We want to be sure that you are sitting with those that you are the most comfortable with.

What are the different kinds of tickets?
