Event Professional Spotlight: Mel Day

Posted by catering on Jul. 31, 2013  /   0

Mel DayIf I was the Governor and wanted to add some floral flair to my mansion on Blount Street I would have my people call Mel Day.  His client list reads like a who’s who of political, sports and fashion celebrities including three former NC Governors and a past U.S. President.  Longevity in the event industry is as rare as a red ball cap in Chapel Hill, yet Mel has been bringing his client’s floral visions into reality for over thirty years.  From designing events in New York, and then to San Francisco for a decade, Mel brings the style and big ideas from his experiences there to our slice of the world here in the Triangle.

When I photograph a wedding that Mel has worked on, it’s obvious to me that a lot of time and planning went into making sure the look of the florals is personally meaningful to our client.  Every event looks so different and I’ve seen several from ultra-traditional to care free and whimsical executed with outstanding attention to detail.

If you are looking through a magazine either locally or beyond, there’s a good chance that you’ll see his work.  Over the years, Mel has also racked up several awards including a Best of NACE award and a NACE Top of the Table.  The next time you are at a NACE event, be sure to strike up a conversation with Mel and be ready to walk away with some interesting and inspiring insights.
