"There comes a time in life when you have to let go of all the pointless drama and the people who create it and surround yourself with people who make you laugh so hard that you forget the bad and focus solely on the good. After all, life is too short to be anything but happy."
It is a tremendous thrill and honor to begin my service to Triangle NACE as President. I feel truly priveleged to be surrounded by such gifted, ambitious, and remarkable people, and I am constantly reminded of the hard work and dedication each member brings to the table.
Without question, Triangle NACE has earned its reputation as one of the finest chapters in the country. In addition to the unwavering support that our members provide, we owe a great deal of thanks to the superb leadership of Diane Tighe and our Board members.
We have a very exciting year ahead. And with each new year, we face new challenges and seek fresh ideas. It is our ability to face and overcome these challenges, as well as our desire to embrace change and innovation, that makes us who we are - a unique and highly progressive organization to be proud of.
I look forward to meeting with the new and existing Board members at the Hilton RTP this Tuesday, November 25th at 5:30 pm.
Best wishes for the coming year!
Mark Day

When seating guests, it's best not to place all the shallow people together. A simple shallow-deep-shallow-moody-shallow-deep

'That Nace Show' awards gala catered to TV nostalgia
Nov 16, 2008
Hollywood is home to some of the most memorable moments in television. From a classic comedy series like "Sanford and Son" to the magic of "Bewitched," networks like TV Land have given some a chance to get another peek at their favorite characters while introducing to young audiences a whole new slate of shows.
Tuesday, I had a chance to travel down a television memory lane of sorts at the Triangle chapter of the National Association of Catering Executives Awards Gala. "That NACE Show" was held at the Washington Duke Inn and Golf Club.
NACE is the oldest and largest professional society that addresses all aspects of the catering industry. The national organization celebrated its 50th anniversary this year.
A lot of effort was put into every detail of the evening. From the full-color programs that were printed much like a TV Guide, to the old-fashioned name tags that guests wore, every little aspect was a part of the overall production.
We started the night with a bit from "The Price is Right" before the first course was served. We then saw presentations inspired by "The Addams Family" and "The Tonight Show."
While we finished the main course, we heard a presentation inspired by "Laverne and Shirley," "I Dream of Jeannie" and "Alice."
Ironically in the "Alice" parody, there was a real Mel. The presentation was done by NACE members Mel Day, Michelle Faber and Christie Cook. The evening was a lot of fun and business owners were recognized for their efforts over the past year.
Three individuals were presented the 2008 Presidents Award for Catering Excellence. They included Vicki Phaneuf, Donna Ford, and Jim Pendergrass.
The Triangle NACE chapter partnered with the Inter-Faith Food Shuttle and in September it held a fundraiser to raise money for the organization. The Inter-Faith Food Shuttle was established in 1989 and works to make use of good food that might otherwise go to waste and get that food to hungry people.
Terri Hutter and Jill Staton-Bullard of the Inter-Faith Food Shuttle accepted a check for $15,000, NACE's largest charitable donation to date. Beth Pendergrass made the check presentation.
Outgoing chapter president Diane Tighe was also recognized for her three years of service leading the organization. Immediate past president Don Ball also introduced the incoming president, Mark Day.
