President's Report:

Chasing the Dream

The Triangle Chapter is once again chasing our dreams for a win at Nationals.   Twelve of our members will be attending  "Experience 2008" to cheer for our Chapter.   We  hope that when we return for our August Chapter meeting we will all have something to celebrate.

Nationals will be introducing some major changes in our bylaws at this conference which will benefit the entire chapter.  A few of the changes that will be introduced are as follows.

1.   We will no longer have categories of members.  (primary or affiliates)  we will all be under one classification.   Event Professionals!

2.  The change in ownership for membership has shifted.  Now when a company purchases a NACE membership it will remain with the company if the employee should move on.  Previously the membership would remain with the person who the company appointed as their NACE member.  Now if that person leaves the company the company will retain the membership and the member will have a 90 day extension to rejoin with their new place of employment.

3. There will be additional discounts offered to our student membership to join our organization.    ( This will allow us to offer  the benefits of NACE  to our newest generation of event professionals.)

All of this and more will be discussed further at our August Chapter meeting.

Finally one of our own members Mr. Don Ball CPCE will be running for a new position as Secretary/Treasure for the National Board.  Please join me in wishing him much luck in this new role and keep your fingers crossed for the big win!

Community Service:

With the support of the Board of the Triangle Chapter of NACE, a group of our members has volunteered to support the North Carolina Gay and Lesbian Film Festival by sponsoring their Patron’s Party on Friday night, August 15th. Triangle NACE and individual catering and event donors will be recognized for their support to thousands of attendees over the course of the weekend. We believe this will allow the chapter an opportunity to showcase the talents of our members to an impressionable audience, increase the public awareness of Triangle NACE to our region, and support our goal of enhancing our community outreach.

The Patrons Party will be held at the Carolina Theatre in downtown Durham on Friday August15, 2008 from 8:30pm until 10:30pm. It is an intimate affair with 150 attendees expected for the evening including notable directors of the various films shown at the festival as well as local movers and shakers who have shown financial support for the NCGLFF. The menu will be comprised of a simple cocktail buffet, beer, and wine.

If you wish to lend your support for this notable event, now in it’s 13 year, we appreciate your help with food, smallwares, tables, cloths, florals, lighting, music and anything else you believe would enhance the evening and provide the opportunity to make this evening reflect positively both on the reputation of Triangle NACE and for the Triangle region as we host this significant statewide festival. Contact Mark Day or Don Ball and let them know how you wish to contribute.

Be A Back Pack Buddy Supporter

If you were at the July meeting at the North Raleigh Hilton, you were reminded through a video of the Interfaith Food Shuttle that over 80,000 school age children who depend on school lunches for their nutritious meals, go hungry over the weekend.  The Triangle Chapter of NACE is working hard to make a significant dent in this shocking number and WE NEED YOUR HELP. The Food Shuttle needs more back packs to hold the non-parishable food items that they send home with these children over the weekend.  Please bring at least one back pack (many of us will bring multiple back packs) to the August meeting at the Carolina Inn to donate to the Food Shuttle. We will fill them with gifts or gift certificates and you will have the unique opportunity to buy them back during the Top of the Table on September 3 at Bay 7 in Durham.  The fundraiser committee thanks you, the Food Shuttle thanks you, and most importantly, the children that will receive them will thank you for giving them hope for the future.
