IT’S A VERY ALICE AFFAIR!

On Tuesday, Sept. 14, the Triangle’s most savvy catering professionals will compete to create the most amazing Alice in Wonderland experience with innovative tabletop displays. Guests will be able to sip and eat at the Mad Hatters Tea Party, test their luck at The Red Queens Den Casino and mingle with Tweedledum and Tweedledee as part of the Triangle Chapter of the National Association of Catering Executive’s (NACE) 2010 Top of the Table Design Competition and Silent Auction starting at 6 p.m. at Bay 7 at the American Tobacco Campus in Durham.

Every year, the organization brings together leading industry vendors to vie for top honors and raise funds through table sponsorships and auctioned items to benefit the Inter-Faith Food Shuttle’s programs, including the Back Pack Buddies program that provides children of low-income families backpacks filled with food for the weekend. Thousands of children in the area rely on school lunches during the week for nutrition but may not receive adequate nutrition on weekends.

While enjoying themed drinks and heavy hors d’oeuvres provided by several of the area’s leading caterers and chefs, attendees will place bids on auction items and enjoy live entertainment. Tables will be judged on the best use of color and texture, best interpretation of set themes and the most original and trend-setting design.
